Clearwater is located in western Florida, on Pinellas Peninsula and Clearwater Harbor, near Saint Petersburg and nearly due west of Tampa. Clearwater is the smallest of the three principal cities in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area, most commonly referred to as the Tampa Bay Area. It is a tourist and residential center linked by a causeway to sandy beaches and a marina on Clearwater Beach, a barrier island. Manufactures include computer components, electronic equipment, and precision instruments. A 2005 real estate survey has estimated the population of Clearwater, Florida at 109,000.
