Biloxi is located in southeastern Mississippi, in Harrison County, on a peninsula extending into the Gulf of Mexico. It is a year-round resort and a major fishing center, shrimp and oysters being the principal catch. In August 2005, Biloxi was badly hit by Hurricane Katrina, causing extensive damage. A 2006 real estate survey has estimated the population of Biloxi, Mississippi at 44,342.
